What Can PuzzleArt Therapy Do For You?
I did not simply sit down one day and decide to create a new therapeutic modality. I wish it had been that simple and straightforward!
Instead, PuzzleArt Therapy grew organically out of necessity. I survived a stroke in my thirties – a stroke that stopped my fast-paced, New York City life and career in its tracks. It was something I never could have expected or planned for, but all of a sudden, I was left with tremendous obstacles to overcome. A stroke can impact one’s life in many ways, but some primary effects include:
- Paralysis on the opposite side of the body where the stroke occurred
- Memory loss
- Speech/language problems
- Vision problems
- Changes in behavior
I began to research health, the brain, and longevity as though my life depended on it – because it did! At the same time, I felt the need to create; I had an incredible amount of creative energy just bursting out of me, and while many art forms spoke to me, painting practically screamed for my attention. Lines, color, and texture burst forth from my paint brush and onto the canvas, and as I worked and painted, I found myself making strides in recovery that I wanted to share with the world.
Through years of collaboration with neuroscientists, behavioral optometrists, anti-aging experts, educators and others, I developed the PuzzleArt Therapy system. This system uses one-of-a-kind abstract art paired with exercises that lead the user through new ways of thinking, seeing, processing, and creating. It encourages your body and brain to work together in ways you may not have even known were important!
Relaxation
At its most basic level, PuzzleArt Therapy is an easy, engaging, and fun way to sit down and relax; and there’s certainly nothing wrong with actively learning how to take a break from your busy day!
Making New Connections
Relaxation is not the only benefit, though. Throughout the PuzzleArt Therapy system, you will learn to spot connections of different kinds; connections of color, shape, texture, and line. But the connections don’t end there. As you become a master of making those connections within your PuzzleArt Therapy pieces, you will discover that you become attuned to many connections in your everyday life that you never noticed before.
“Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things.” – Steve Jobs
Problem-Solving
As you arrange and rearrange the pieces, you’ll also find yourself becoming completely absorbed. Tuning-in to your creativity, you’ll find yourself tuned-out to your worries, concerns, and problems. But as you work your way through the system, you will find your mind being opened to a variety of possibilities. Finding solutions to problems within the pieces can translate into improved problem solving throughout your life – it seeps into how you see and solve issues at work, at home, and within. While you may not have been focused on your life’s problems while deep in your PuzzleArt Therapy pieces, you may just find you have a new perspective on those challenges after spending time learning to see in a new way.
Relationships
Since PuzzleArt Therapy enhances your ability to see things from a different perspective, it can also help you in your relationships with others. Men may be from Mars and women from Venus, but PuzzleArt is universal.
Visual Perceptual Skills and Brain Health
At the same time that you’re busy relaxing with your PuzzleArt, your brain experiences a workout that will help you feel younger and stronger. Doctors and scientists acknowledge that keeping your brain active is one of the major secrets to achieving a long and happy life. And without even realizing what’s happening, you’ll be strengthening your visual-perceptual skills, which are vital to our brain health.
